  1. Motivation is an inevitable factor for the business leaders in order to balance their organizational control with employee satisfaction. The effect of low employee motivation can lead to several drawbacks for the organization. It can lead to some undesirable behavior of employees such as poor performance, absenteeism, high turnover and finally lower productivity. (Hartman, 2017)

  2. Various theories have emerged to explain motivation. Such as, Instrumentality, Reinforcement, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg’s two-factor model, Expectancy theory, Goal theory and Equity theory. But these theories have their own limitations. Individuals vary from one another. Therefore, there is no ‘one best way’ to motivate them since everyone cannot be motivated in the same pattern (Armstrong, 2010). HR needs to find an accurate and practical way to motivate each individual and to enhance performance.

  3. There are many types of motivations. It can be categorized as monetary & non-monetary motivations, integrative & instrumental and Intrinsic Motivation & Extrinsic Motivation. Intrinsic and Extrinsic is the most common classification. Intrinsic motivation are arises from the inside of individuals it is based on the beliefs and values of the individual and which are very powerful. Some of the examples of intrinsic motivations are acceptance, curiosity, honor, independence, order, power, social contract, social status and etc. Extrinsic Motivation is something that arises from the outside and which are not controllable too. They are: awards, benefit packages, bonuses and etc (Tengku, 2012).

  5. Motivation is a key factor that influences on the employee performance. Performance of firms is influenced by many things in which employee motivation is the main factor if employees are more motivated then performance of organization will also enhance (Saif ullah malik et’al 2012)
    Having understood this, companies use various methods and systems to keep its employees motivated. rewarding systems (financial/non financial, hygiene factors, motivating factors, etc)

Whereas it becomes essential to bring in some changes because of the demands of time. Employees can be made to accept such changes easily with the help of motivation. Motivated people accept these changes enthusiastically and improve their work performance (Chakrabarti and Chatterjea, 2017).

But the important thing is to use theories and practice them effectively. if the theories can implement with effective leadership, organization will able to have the expected results. Motivation means, individuals who are eager and making an effort to work towards organization goals. Being eager and making the effort because the workers are focused on the job performance and satisfied at their workplace.
